By The Time I Get To Arizona

Public Enemy once made a song called "By the Time I Get To Arizona". The song which is currently on the playlist of this site, is about Arizona's then-Governor(along with John McCain) not supporting MLK Day. I was reminded of the song after the passing of their immigration bill this month, that supports racial profiling of alleged " illegal immigrants". The problem with this law is it allows police officers to stop people they believe to be here illegally and it also requires immigrants to keep documentation on them or they face jail time. When I heard of this I was instantly reminded of several things. The first and most obvious was when free black people( pre and post civil war) were required to keep documentation on them. Other examples of this process were when Jews were required to wear stars on their shirts in Nazi Germany and when South African blacks were required to have passes to travel in their own country. Now alot of people might feel like I am going overboard with these examples but I see this pattern in history. Do I support illegals? NO but I do go against any type of discrimination based on race, ethnicity, or religion. If we take our founding documents seriously we have to go against discrimination. "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" are the most powerful rights we have as Americans. And anything going against that is tyranny. Not that bullshit "Obama" tyranny but real tyranny. We must stand for the rights of others aside from political, ethnic, or sexual differences. Dr. King once said, "An injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere.
