Asher Roth is probably the most hyped rapper since Lupe Fiasco. He has a chart topping debut single, "I Love College", has been interviewed by everyone from Rolling Stone to the Wall Street Journal, and is getting unfair comparisons to the greatest white rapper ever, Marshall Mathers III, aka Eminem. But despite all the hype his debut, Asleep in the Bread Aisle, proves to be quite impressive. Despite the comparisons, Asher Roth is not the new Eminem, which isnt a bad thing. He is more of a Backpack rapper, if anything other than Asher Roth. He does have manic and funny songs( Lark on my Kart, Bad Day, Lion Roar ft. Busta Rhymes, and Be By Myself w/ Cee-Lo) but he also goes deeper in songs(His Dream, Sour Patch Kids) and talks about his love for Hip Hop(Fallin'). But the most talked about song is "As I Em" a song that addresses the Eminem comparisons and his respect for him. But with this album, Asher Roth builds on his own hype and seperates his self from other rappers, both white and black. After this album the comparisons to Eminem are now irrelevant and a display of lets face it racism. But Asher Roth is one of the best new rappers and this album proves that. My only problem is the album is kinda short but full of quality. So i give it a 9/10. Yes its that good.
